about

Several years ago-
Sydney wipes the gunk off of a gas station mirror. There's that familiar face. "I'm still me, I'm still human," they think. The hand they'd used to wipe the mirror is scaley, has horrific claws on it and strange padding on parts of the palm. It's larger than their other hand. Their other hand's fingertips are already changing though. Their shoes don't fit either, and a their tailbone aches. Day by day, in small increments, the changes come, and memories disappear.
Sydney isn't sure what planet they're on anymore. It's snowy and populated by humans. They aren't sure what system they're in, or what planet they originated on. They just know they're running. The people who had injected them with the stuff that was robbing their memories and transforming their body slowly couldn't be far behind. They take one last look at their hands and tuck them away.
They return to their waiting Annihilator outside. It's a 772 model, so it's about 25 years old. Sydney is pretty sure they're around the same age as the car. In the car is a little girl. Sydney opens the door and slips inside, glancing over at the girl. "You okay, Courtney?" they ask. The little girl looks up from her videogames, popping one of her earbuds out. "What?"
Yeah, she's okay.
"We're probably going to get to the space port today. Remember our story?"
"No... I'm forgetting everything," the girl says with a little sigh. "Sydney, I want to go home."
"We can't, Court... I'm sorry."
